The rest of the game (more of a visual novel than a “dating sim,” since your only romantic option is an alpaca) is all about coming to terms with your llama-shaped girlfriend. Unfortunately, the English language localization of the dialogue is rather poor. Seasoned players of dating sims endeavor to experience all the junctures, all the good and the bad, ultimately seeking out their best of all possible worlds. This is a very different philosophy from Western-style role-playing games, where one generally finds it more satisfying to select with your gut and accept how the die is cast. Both visual novels and dating sims usually have a “Gallery Screen” where you can replay previous scenes which are typically still images.

In Nekojishi, you play a young Taipei university student who, through a spiritual dance performance, ends up awakening his ability to see cat spirits. One Last Stop also explores concepts and events from LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Boyfriend Dungeon asks and answers that important question, giving you a chance to run through dungeons with a selection of weapons and date those weapons outside of the dungeon. You can also choose to pie off dating anyone and just hang out with a cool cat, which is a very solid option if you ask me. Boyfriend Dungeon is delightful, a great new take on the dating sim.
